Max Verstappen stated that he would rather work on developing the Red Bull car in the simulator himself.
A simulator is one of the key tools for Formula 1 teams to work on the car as track testing time is limited. Full-time drivers work in the simulator, though reserve drivers are usually involved in the process as well.
In 2023, Daniel Ricciardo will be Red Bull’s third driver, and his duties imply working on the simulator. However, Verstappen prefers to work on the simulator himself.
“Our simulator is one of the best in this sport. The days are very long, but it’s undoubtedly worth it,” he told Speedweek.
“I also don’t want a test driver to take over the simulator sessions like other teams do. I want to do it myself because everyone has their own driving style.”
