Haas team principal Guenther Steiner believes former team driver Mick Schumacher is “in a good place” as a reserve driver in Mercedes.
The German driver made the switch to being a reserve for the Silver Arrows in 2023 after being replaced at Haas and leaving the Ferrari driver academy. However, his former boss believes he is in a good place despite not being a full-time driver.
“I think he is in a good position with Mercedes, they have a lot of sister teams,” Steiner said in an interview with RTL. “De Vries was able to make his Formula 1 debut with Williams and has earned a driver seat in AlphaTauri for this year.
“Mick is in a good place and I hope nothing happens to any driver, but if it does, he can drive in his place.
“Sometimes, if you take a step back, you can take two steps forward in the future. He has put himself in a good position, with a team with whom he has the best chance of fighting to become a full-time driver again in the future,” he stated.
