Wales right winger Gareth Bale announced his retirement from professional football on Monday.
Bale began his professional career in 2006. He played for such clubs as Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, and Los Angeles FC.
The list of Bale’s accomplishments includes five Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cup victories, three La Ligas, one Copa del Rey, and one MLS Cup.
Bale also made 111 appearances for the Welsh national teams, in which he scored 41 goals. He participated in the Euro 2016, Euro 2020, and the 2022 World Cup.
On Monday, the 33-year-old confirmed that he had decided to end his professional career.
“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announced my immediate retirement from club and international football,” Bale’s announcement read.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have realized my dream of playing the sport I love. It has truly given me some of the best moments of my life. The highest of highs over 17 seasons, that will be impossible to replicate, no matter what the next chapter has in store for me.
“From my very first touch at Southampton to my last with LAFC and everything in between, shaped a club career that I have an immense pride and gratitude for. Playing for and captaining my country 111 times has truly been a dream come true.”
