Chelsea was forced to make a substitution just 5 minutes into the game. Sterling suffered a muscular injury, and Aubameyang stepped into the field in his place. Fast forward 17 minutes and things kept getting worse – Pulisic was now forced out due to issues with his ankle. Chukwuemeka subbed him in.
Manchester City had their first occasion in the 32nd minute. Gundogan – though his shot from the distance went wide. Minutes later, Haaland had his shot, but it went high, it wasn’t precise.
Ziyech with Chelsea tried to make a surprise later on from the distance against Manchester’s keeper but it didn’t work out, the ball was blocked by Ederson. Then again, Chukwuemeka shot it but hit the post, losing his chance. This concluded the first half action.
Manchester City finally got it done and scored in the 63rd minute. It was Riyad Mahrez – the striker was assisted by Grealish. The duo was just brought into the pitch 3 minutes earlier, in replacement of Silva and Foden respectively. This certainly played out well.
Despite several attempts and a close call toward the end, including the 4 minutes of added time, Chelsea did not manage to equal Manchester City. The team lost 0 to 1 against their rivals.
