Guenther Steiner is confident that Haas has all the potential to improve and do well in 2023. The team principal is sure that the team can fix some problems and make a step forward.
Steiner believes that last year’s struggles were not due to a lack of money, and is confident that the team will understand the issues and improve.
“We were very close to the budget limit last year. I think if we didn’t act like other teams, it wasn’t because of the money, but rather because of when we started,” the team principal told Motorsport.com.
“In 2020, we had to close everything. In 2021, we started building the car for 2022, but when we started it was January and you can’t have a team of people working perfectly and in harmony from day one,” he said.
During the first few races of the 2022 season, Haas proved to be competitive, especially with Kevin Magnussen. However, the American team could not keep up with the good results of the first races. It is exactly this inconsistency that Steiner wants to fix.
“So it took a bit of time. At the beginning of the year, we were strong, but then we were a bit off, we had ups and downs. Although Formula 1 is just a tough place, I think we found out why it turned out the way it did.”
Finally, he said that in 2023, Haas will be able to reach the limit of the budget cap, and this will help the outfit to close the gap with other teams.
“We will reach the budget limit, and I am quite sure that we can make a step forward, technically and as a team,” he assured.
“Now we will be able to do what other teams can do. I think that not only us, but all the others will reach the budget limit.”
