Southampton and Nottingham Forest as well as Leeds United and West Ham United faced up in two of the four Premier League matches that took place on Wednesday.
Nottingham Forest won 1-0 against Southampton and got crucial three points, while Leeds and West Ham scored two goals apiece at Elland Road.
Southampton – Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest was creating more moments throughout the first half. In the end, their efforts converted into a goal. Taiwo Awoniyi scored in the 27th minute.
Things went from bad to worse for Southampton as Armel Bella-Kotchap had to be substituted seven minutes later because of an injury.
Neither Southampton, Nor Nottingham Forest scored in the second half, which meant that the visitors won the match 1-0.
It was a crucial win for Nottingham Forest as they left the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Southamption remained in last place.
Leeds United – West Ham United
Neither team was creating dangerous moments in the opening stages of the match. Everything changed in the 27th minute when Wilfried Gnonto made a successful strike.
West Ham got the opportunity to equalize at the end of the first half. Pascal Struijk committed a foul on Jarrod Bowen inside Leeds’ penalty box. After the VAR review, referee David Coote gave the visitors a penalty. Lucas Paquetá scored the goal.
West Ham took the lead within a minute since the start of the second half. Gianluca Scamacca intercepted Brenden Aaronson’s pass and made a shot from outside Leeds’ penalty area. Though the ball hit the post at first, it went into the net.
Things got heated in the second half several times. In one of the episodes, Crysencio Summerville made a hard tackle on Vladimír Coufal and was given a yellow card.
Leeds restored the status quo in the 70th minute after Rodrigo’s strike at the edge of West Ham’s penalty box.
The teams exchanged dangerous attacks, but the score remained 2-2 when Coote blew the final whistle.
