The FIA president Ben Sulayem has stated that he is reviewing new teams’ proposals to join Formula 1 with the intent of expanding the current grid.

In the last few years, Formula 1 has been growing a lot in terms of numbers, and its fans are still growing every year. Therefore, many new teams expressed the desire to join one of the most famous sports in the world.

So far, the FIA was happy with the number of teams that Formula 1 has, which is ten. However, Ben Sulayem tweeted that he proposed to his team to start a project which would allow new outfits to enter the sport.

“I have asked my FIA team to look at launching an Expressions of Interest process for prospective new teams for the FIA F1 World Championship,” said the FIA president in his tweet.

If this project goes as planned, it would mean that a team like Andretti, which expressed its intentions of joining the sport, might actually be able to compete in F1 in the future.
