Alan Shearer believes that Erling Haaland will manage to break his record for most Premier League goals scored.
Haaland scored two goals against Leeds United in Manchester City’s first Premier League game after the World Cup break. Those were his 19th and 20th goals in the championship this season. This made the Norwegian striker the quickest player to score 20 Premier League goals (in 14 matches).
Haaland had opportunities to score more goals at Elland Road, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Shearer believes that missed chances will disappoint the Man City player.
“He missed a few chances on the night, one was in the first couple of minutes,” Shearer said on Amazon Prime.
“He offers you almost everything – he can get the tap-ins. There’s not many weaknesses, but he’ll look at it tonight and be disappointed at the chances he squandered.”
Shearer is holding a record for the most goals scored in the Premier League (260). He expects that Haaland will beat the record if he stays in England long enough.
“I said it before a ball was kicked this season, I think a good center forward will get 20 goals, and a fantastic center forward – which he is… He will have a figure in his head, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s got a four in front.
“I love his hunger and desire. I love that attitude.
“If you want to build the perfect center forward from scratch, he is it. There isn’t anything he’s not good at. At worst, if he’s fit, he’ll be getting 40 goals. The ability he has around him and his own ability. He’ll get my record if he stays.”
