After a difficult year, Nico Hülkenberg will replace Mick Schumacher at Haas in 2023. The former failed to deliver good results consistently, but Sebastian Vettel does not think it was all his fault.
At the beginning of the season, Schumacher’s teammate, Kevin Magnussen, scored essential points for the team. On the other hand, the German was struggling with the VF-22, crashing various times and costing the team a lot of money.
Then, when Schumacher started to feel more comfortable with his machinery, other teams improved while Haas did not bring many efficient updates. Thus, it became difficult for Mick to score points during the weekends.
Despite this, Vettel believes that Haas played an important part in Schumacher’s lack of points this year. The four-time world champion stated that the team made many mistakes that cost his countryman some points throughout the season.
“Mick needs some time now to digest everything that has happened. I wish him a lot of encouragement and hope for his future role. This year his car has been nothing special and his team has also made a lot of mistakes. I think he has a chance to come back to the grid in 2024.”
