Carlos Sainz believes that Ferrari was “out-developed” by Red Bull Racing and Mercedes throughout the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Ferrari had one of the quickest cars on the grid at the start of the season and won two out of three opening races. However, a combination of mechanical issues, controversial strategy decisions, and driver errors did not allow the Maranello-based outfit to compete with Red Bull later on.

Furthermore, Ferrari fought against Mercedes for 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship until the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Sainz thinks that Ferrari was “out-developed” by the opponents and noted that it is one of the areas that has to be improved for next season.

“We’re going to focus on that and come back stronger as a team because we got out-developed by Red Bull and Mercedes and we were not exactly the best at executing races,” he said.

“I think if we improve these couple of areas, we can be very strong next year.”
