Liam Lawson has won the Formula 2 Sprint race in Abu Dhabi after a heated battle with second-placed Richard Verschoor.

The race was red-flagged on lap 1 following a heavy crash between Jehan Daruvala and Enzo Fittipaldi. The Brazilian driver was crashed from the back by the Red Bull academy driver, as he tried to correct after losing the rear out of a corner. The Stewards announced they would investigate the incident after the race.

The race restarted under a rolling start on lap 3 after a long waiting as the barriers were repaired. Richard Verschoor had a good getaway with Liam Lawson chasing him behind. At the back, Frederik Vesti closely followed Marcus Armstrong for P10, but it was a tough battle.

Clement Novalak made a move on Zane Maloney for P15 on lap 10, but he quickly lost it to the Trident as the exchange kept heaving up under the Abu Dhabi sunset.

At the top, Lawson had finally made a move on Verschoor and the pair closely battled for the position. Cordeel was in third, trying to get involved in the dispute for the lead. However, it didn’t work out and it was Lawson who took the victory of the race, with Verschoor in second and Drugovich in third, as he overtook Cordeel earlier.
