Lewis Hamilton believes that Mercedes had the most competitive car in the 2022 F1 season during the Mexico City GP.
Mercedes had a strong race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. George Russell and Hamilton finished Saturday’s qualifying 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In the race, Hamilton was challenging Max Verstappen for the win but crossed the finish line in P2. Russell crossed the finish line in 4th place.
Hamilton was delighted with the Silver Arrows’ performance and stated that they had not been as competitive as in Mexico in 2022.
“[There are] so, so many positives to take from this weekend,” he said.
“This is definitely the most competitive and the best the car has felt all year – and that is truly down to the amazing work from all the women and men back at the factory, who have just been doing such an amazing job, and not giving up.
“I think it’s just been a real showing of resilience, and perseverance.”
He added: “I’m so happy to be kind of back in that fight.
“We saw in the last race [in the United States], kind of, almost having a chance to win.
“I don’t know what the car will be like in these next races. I’m hoping in Brazil, something special may come of it. But we’ll see.”
