Max Verstappen has achieved 14 wins during the 2022 Formula 1 season, the most achieved by any driver in the history of the sport during a single year.
The 2022 World Champion claimed victory of the Mexican Grand Prix after defending from a stronger Mercedes team at the start of the race. It is also the fourth win for Verstappen in the country, the most he’s ever achieved at a single circuit.
“We love coming here,” he said in the post-race interview. “It’s been a great year so far. We are enjoying it and keep going for more.”
Verstappen had to defend from the Mercedes duo at the start of the race but quickly got away due to his good start.
“It helped me out a lot t start in the lead after turn one,” he said, “and also on a different strategy to the cars around. Again, an incredible result and the car was nice.”
The 2-time World Champion also said the team had to manage their tires carefully as they went for a longer stint with the one-stop strategy, as opposed to the expected 2-stopper from Pirelli.
