Carlos Sainz said Ferrari was “just slow” during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, but that they had to take compromises.

The Spaniard finished the race in Mexico in P5, ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc in sixth. Speaking after the race, Sainz said the team expected a loss of performance.

“[There were] no issues,” he told Sky Sports. “That is the main point that this weekend we were just slow, but we know the compromises that we had to take going into this weekend, with this car, this engine, and we knew that we were going to lose performance more than what we expected.”

The Ferrari driver hopes for improvements in the last two races of the season in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

“We will learn from it and make sure we have good pace in Brazil and Abu Dhabi,” he said.
