Sergio Perez said he expected to finish closer to the top at the Mexican Grand Prix, but admitted it “didn’t work out.”
The Mexican, who received tremendous support at his home Grand Prix, struggled to catch Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton for second place during the race. Speaking at the post-session interview, Perez admitted his slight frustration with the results.
“I gave my best today at the start,” he said. “I really pushed hard. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a bad stop, which prevented us from undercutting Lewis [Hamilton].
“Overtaking was difficult because as soon as I got behind him, it was difficult to follow, so I had to start in third [place].
“I thought we were going to be a bit closer,” he continued, “but, unfortunately, it didn’t work out for us today.
“It’s a good podium. In front of this crowd I really wanted more, but third place is still a good day,” he concluded.
