Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said Max Verstappen’s 2021 Formula 1 title should no longer be in doubt following Red Bull’s breach of the cost cap regulations.
Wolff said that any team that breaches the financial regulations should be penalized, just like it happens for the technical and sporting ones.
“The financial regulations are like the technical and sporting regulations,” he said. “If you made a technical mistake, you get a penalty for it.
“That should also apply for the financial regulations, even if it is new.”
The Mercedes boss said that even a one million USD excess can decide the championship, and told the FIA to make a “meaningful” decision. However, Wolff believes Verstappen’s 2021 World Title should not be in doubt anymore.
“I don’t know the exact excess [of Red Bull in terms of the cost cap], but one or two million can decide a championship.
“The FIA has to make a meaningful decision. I just don’t think the 2021 title should be in doubt anymore.”
