McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl thinks that Alpine will not release Oscar Piastri until the end of the 2022 F1 season.
Alpine announced in August that Piastri will drive for them next year. However, the Australian denied it several hours later and eventually joined McLaren following the Contract Recognition Board hearing.
Despite the events, Piastri remains Alpine’s reserve driver. Seidl doubts that Piastri will be released early.
When asked whether Alpine’s signing of Pierre Gasly will allow McLaren to get Piastri earlier, Seidl replied: “I don’t think it changes a lot really.
“They’re still planning to keep going with the program, as far as I understand, with Oscar until the end of the season.
“Therefore, there’s no news really.”
