Charles Leclerc believes that the 5-second time penalty he received after the Japanese GP was “the right thing to do”.
Leclerc was handed the time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage on the final lap of the race. As a result, he was demoted to 3rd place.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto was frustrated with the stewards’ approach to the incident. However, Leclerc accepted that he was at fault.
“Well, I don’t have much to say,” he said.
“I did a mistake and tried to minimize it by trying to go straight.
“I was not aware this was the last lap, but the five-second penalty was the right thing to do, to be honest.”
