Alexander Smolyar is the quickest driver of the final Formula 3 qualifying of the season.
After the practice session was held in mixed conditions, the F3 qualifying at Monza took place on the dry race track.
Championship leader Victor Martins failed to stop at Variante del Rettifilo and had to take the escape road during his first flying lap.
Roman Stanek topped the standings early on. After his slip-up at the start of the session, Martins moved up to P4 for the time being.
Stanek improved his lap time and remained on provisional pole. His Trident teammates Jonny Edgar and Zane Maloney were in the top 3 as well.
Hadjar went off the track and spun at Parabolica. The Hitech GP driver hit the barrier. The session was over for him which might impact his championship chances. Qualifying was suspended.
With over 8 minutes left in qualifying, drivers returned to the race track to make their final attempts to take pole position. After an installation lap, the majority of the field went through the pit lane to get more space.
Alexander Smolyar beat Stanek’s time by half a second. The Czech driver improved his lap time again, but it was enough for 3rd place.
Hunter Yeany got beached in the gravel bringing out yellow flags at sector 1. In the end, Smolyar took pole position for the Feature Race. Maloney was second, while Stanek ended the session in P3.
Caio Collet was 12th which means that he will start the Sprint Race from pole.
