Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan has claimed pole position for the Formula 2 Feature Race at Monza.
The Formula 2 grid at Monza is slightly different compared to Zandvoort. Luca Ghiotto joined DAMS to replace Roy Nissany who had received a one-round ban.
Championship leader Felipe Drugovich took the lead early in the session. However, his lap time was beaten by Liam Lawson shortly after.
Jack Doohan was frustrated with Jehan Daruvala’s behavior on the race track.
Lap times were improving. Juri Vips took over the lead. The Hitech GP driver was ahead of Logan Sargeant and Theo Pourchaire.
Doohan was five-hundredths of a second quicker than Vips and got to the top of the standings.
After a break, drivers left the pit lane and returned to the track. Ayumu Iwasa set the new fastest lap. However, Doohan improved his lap time and was on provisional pole again.
Drivers had another push lap in the final minutes of the session. Iwasa spun at Parabolica and hit the barrier. Yellow flags were out on sector 3 which did not allow his opponents to finish their flying laps.
Doohan took pole position for the Feature Race. Lawson and Marcus Armstrong completed the top 3.
Frederik Vesti received the Sprint Race pole position as he had finished qualifying in P10.
