Otmar Szafnauer revealed that Alpine will discuss the possibility of releasing Oscar Piastri before the end of the season after the Dutch GP.
McLaren confirmed on Friday that Piastri will drive for them in the 2023 F1 season. The announcement was made following the Contract Recognition Board’s decision that the Australian does not have contractual obligations to Alpine.
Piastri currently remains the Alpine reserve driver. However, he may be released because of his switch to McLaren. Szafnauer stated that the team will discuss the matter after the Dutch GP.
“He’s with us this weekend, doing simulator work and he’ll continue this weekend,” the Alpine team principal said.
“There’s only a couple of days left, today and tomorrow. And then on Monday we will get together with him and decide how we go forward.
“We’ll decide on Monday. We’ll decide then. I don’t want to think about it here. Because there’s more considerations to be had.”
