Lewis Hamilton believes that Formula 1 “needs” to have the South African Grand Prix on the calendar.
Formula 1 has recently been in talks with the potential South African GP promoters regarding a possible return of the event to the championship. F1 might have returned to Kyalami next year, but the negotiations reportedly fell through. Nevertheless, the South African GP may join the calendar in 2024.
“I’ve been pushing a lot in the background to get the Grand Prix there,” Hamilton commented on the matter.
“I’m happy with the talks that have been [happening], and Stefano [Domenicali] has been doing an amazing job trying to get it to happen.
“I’m still hopeful that there might be a race next year, you can never say never.
“As long as we get to get it on the calendar, [I’m happy]. We need to have a Grand Prix there.”
