Jack Doohan has won the Formula 2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, with Felipe Drugovich and Liam Lawson behind.
Felipe Drugovich kept the lead at the start of the race. He was followed by Jack Doohan and David Beckmann. Enzo Fittipaldi was down to P4 after a difficult getaway. Later on, Liam Lawson overtook the Charouz Racing System driver.
The race ended in a nightmare for Drugovich’s championship rival Theo Pourchaire. The Frenchman retired in the early stages.
Several drivers had their mandatory pit stops on lap 8. Fittipaldi led the pack at the pit lane exit. The Brazilian was eventually fighting Lawson. He got ahead at La Source but cut the chicane and had to give the position back.
Doohan’s undercut was successful and the Virtuosi Racing driver got ahead of Drugovich after the latter had completed his pit stop. Meanwhile, Richard Verschoor, who started the race on Medium tires, inherited the lead.
Doohan lost time trying to overtake Amaury Cordeel which allowed Drugovich to close the gap. The Australian was in the lead after Verschoor and Clement Novalak had had their pit stops.
Verschoor’s strategy was paying off as the Trident driver got to the top 5 with 6 laps to go. The Dutchman overtook Fittipaldi for 4th place a lap later.
The Virtual Safety Car was deployed on the penultimate lap of the race after Lirim Zendeli had stopped outside the track.
Doohan remained in front of Drugovich and won the race. Lawson crossed the finish line in 3rd place.
