Fernando Alonso was left frustrated after his first-lap incident with Lewis Hamilton at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Hamilton tried to overtake the Alpine driver through the outside into Les Combes, but made contact with him and retired from the race due to the damage. Alonso was then heard on the radio complaining about the situation, stating the 7-time World Champion only “knows how to drive and start first.”
Speaking after the race, Alonso admitted being “sad” about the incident because he finds himself unable to achieve a clean first lap when starting from a good position.
“I’m just sad because when I start P2 or P3, always these things happen, and when I’m 12th or 13th, I have a clean race. So, I wanted to have a normal race, and, unfortunately, we started already with that incident.”
