McLaren confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo will leave the team at the conclusion of the 2022 F1 season.
Ricciardo initially had a three-year contract with McLaren which was set to expire in 2023. However, the Australian’s future with McLaren was under threat amid his struggles in the team and the reports of Oscar Piastri’s potential agreement with the Woking-based outfit.
Furthermore, there were reports about the negotiations between McLaren and Ricciardo regarding the termination of the contract and subsequent compensation.
McLaren released a statement on Wednesday that confirmed Ricciardo’s departure from the team after this season.
“McLaren Racing and Daniel Ricciardo have mutually agreed that Daniel will leave the team at the end of the 2022 season,” the statement read.
“The team thanks Daniel for his dedication and contribution, including that memorable win in Monza. We look forward to finishing the season strongly together.”
