AlphaTauri officially announced that Liam Lawson will be behind the wheel of the AT03 car in the opening free practice session of the Belgian GP.
AlphaTauri will give their first rookie FP1 slot of the season to Lawson, who is a member of the Red Bull Junior Team and a Red Bull Racing reserve driver. He will drive Pierre Gasly’s car at Spa-Francorchamps.
Lawson is currently competing in Formula 2 at Carlin. He is 8th in the championship with 88 points scored.
“[I’m] super excited to say I’ll be doing my first FP1 this weekend in Spa,” Lawson said in a video on AlphaTauri’s social media.
“[I] honestly couldn’t think of a better place to do it. It’s going to be a very exciting feeling. Historic track and a place that I’ve always enjoyed driving, so in a Formula 1 car it’s going to be incredible.”
