Helmut Marko believes that Ferrari lost that many points to Red Bull Racing in the first half of the season by doing “pretty much everything wrong”.
Ferrari were 49 points ahead of Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship after the Australian GP. However, the situation dramatically changed 10 races later. Red Bull won 8 of those races while Ferrari had slip-ups on numerous occasions. The Milton Keynes-based outfit now has a 97-point advantage in the standings.
Marko admitted that Red Bull were disappointed that Ferrari had not put up a fight.
“It has rarely been so much fun. Almost every weekend is a pleasure, quite different from last season where everything cost a lot of nerves,” the Red Bull advisor told OE24.
“It’s just a bit of a shame that Ferrari makes so many mistakes. They are beaten below their value, we really feel sorry for them.
“But once again: They will be back, they have such a strong car.”
When asked how Ferrari had lost so much while having one of the quickest cars on the grid, Marko said: “By doing pretty much everything wrong.
“In Budapest, for example, for the first time they didn’t give the tires the right temperature window, and also chose the wrong pit strategy.
“I don’t understand why they didn’t take used Mediums, they would have been better.”
