Oscar Piastri stated that he will not join Alpine in the 2023 Formula 1 season despite the team’s announcement.
Alpine announced earlier on Tuesday that Piastri would drive for the team alongside Esteban Ocon next year. However, there were no comments from the Australian himself regarding the news.
Later on, Piastri reacted to the announcement and denied that he would be the Alpine driver next season.
“I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine in 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year,” the statement read.
