Drivers began their programs as soon as the session began. Hard and Medium tires were the optimal choice, though Alexander Albon and Nicholas Latifi were on Softs.
Lewis Hamilton was surprised to have found himself 1.9 seconds away from Charles Leclerc who set the pace early on. The Mercedes driver was not happy with the behavior of his car throughout the practice. He finished FP2 in 11th place.
Albon lost the rear of his car at turn 1, spun, and stopped outside the track, bringing out the yellow flags. The Williams driver managed to keep going, but his Soft tires were damaged.
Drivers began switching to Soft tires closer to the halfway point of the session to make the qualifying simulations.
Carlos Sainz expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Nicholas Latifi hampered him on his flying lap.
After the one-lap simulations were done, drivers began working on race pace.
Leclerc had to go to the pits because of a suspected car issue. After the checks were over, the Monegasque came back to the race track. However, he hit a jack while leaving his garage.
Leclerc was on top in FP2. Lando Norris was second, over two-tenths slower than the Monegasque. Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz ended the session in P3.
