Ayumu Iwasa has claimed the top spot of Formula 2 qualifying, with Marcus Armstrong in second and Felipe Drugovich third.
Qualifying began, as always, with the field going out to set the first laps and get a feel of the surface.
Though Vesti, Pourchaire, and Vips led through the opening stages of the session, it was in the last 10 minutes that we started seeing the real potential of the drivers.
Marcus Armstrong dominated the charts with minutes to the end, with Drugovich behind him. However, Iwasa was fiercely charging from P6, hoping the claim the top spot of the standings – and he did it. The Japanese claimed P1 from Armstrong by more than 0.3s.
Vesti saw himself in a different position from what he had achieved in the opening minutes. The ART driver was sitting on P7 and was complicated by track limits, as so were other drivers through some corners.
In the end, it was Iwasa who took pole, with Armstrong and Drugovich behind him.
