Helmut Marko revealed that Red Bull Racing do not know what caused Max Verstappen’s issues with tire degradation at the Austrian GP.
Verstappen was the leader in the opening stages of the race. However, he was not able to make a gap from Charles Leclerc and the Ferrari driver overtook the Dutchman. Verstappen struggled with tire wear and that did not allow him to compete for the win last Sunday.
Marko hopes that Red Bull will find a solution to the problem.
“After our superiority on Friday and Saturday, this came as a surprise. The tire wear we had to deal with today [on Sunday], we can’t explain at the moment,” the Red Bull advisor told Sky Sport Germany.
“Even more surprising was that with the last set of tires we had a good pace, and the temperature and wear were also fine. So what was going on? I hope we can solve it.”
