Lewis Hamilton thinks that Formula 1 should take measures after the cases of fan harassment during the Austrian Grand Prix.
Some of the fans reported on social media that they had suffered from harassment by other fans during the race weekend at the Red Bull Ring. F1 released a statement on Sunday condemning “unacceptable” behavior.
Fan abuse was also criticized in the paddock. Hamilton believes that F1 needs to take real action as the We Race As One campaign turned out to be “just words.”
“It’s time for action. We Race as One was all good and well, but it was just words. It didn’t actually do anything. There was no funding towards anything, there was no program to actually create change and spark that conversation,” he said.
“So, definitely [we] need to utilize our platforms. But we really have to step up and actually really start actioning some of the things we’re saying. Just saying [words], it’s not enough.
“It’s unacceptable. It’s not enough.”
