Sebastian Vettel said abusive fans should receive life bans from attending motorsport events.
The Austrian Grand Prix saw several reports of abusive fans harassing other attendees with homophobic and racial slurs and other comments. Formula 1 acknowledged the incidents and said is working with the race promoters and security to solve the matter.
Speaking after the race, Sebastian Vettel condemned the unfortunate events and said those responsible should be banned for life.
“Horrible, isn’t it?” Vettel said. “I think it’s good that this stuff comes out, that’s the start, but it is horrible.
“Whoever these people are, they should be ashamed of themselves and they should be banned from racing events for their lives.
“I think there should be zero tolerance. If people have a good time and drink too much that’s okay, but it doesn’t justify or excuse wrong behavior.
“We race as one, so the fans are part of that.”
