Lewis Hamilton admitted he was not expecting to finish on the podium at the Austrian Grand Prix following yesterday’s results.
The British driver had crashed out of qualifying on Friday and finished P8 in yesterday’s Sprint race. Today, however, he made a recovery and capitalized on Sainz’s retirement, which allowed him to get a podium result.
“I definitely wasn’t expecting that,” he said after the race. “Yesterday was a difficult day and we have had a bit of a rough weekend.
“I do want to say a really big thank you to the men and women in the garage who worked so hard to rebuild the car. I had a brand new car on Saturday morning.”
