PREMA’s Jak Crawford has won the Formula 3 Sprint Race in Spielberg, ahead of Caio Collet and Franco Colapinto.
Racing action at the Red Bull Ring on Saturday began with the F3 Sprint Race.
Caio Collet remained in front at the race start. However, Juan Manuel Correa passed the MP Motorsport driver at turn 4. Shortly after, the Safety Car was deployed as Rafael Villagomez spun and stopped at turn 3. David Vidales had a pit stop in order to change the front wing.
The race restarted on lap 4. Correa was the leader. He was followed by Collet and Franco Colapinto. Behind them, there was a three-way battle between Trident teammates Roman Stanek, Jonny Edgar, and Zane Maloney for P5.
The race ended in a heartbreak for Correa. He slowed down on the main straight and retired from the race. Collet inherited the lead.
The Virtual Safety Car was deployed after William Alatalo stopped right outside the track. Later on, the Safety Car came back to the race track following an incident involving Arthur Leclerc, Oliver Bearman, and Maloney.
Collet stayed ahead at the restart, but he was overtaken by Jak Crawford later in the lap. Colapinto remained in P3. The Van Amersfoort Racing driver was putting pressure on Collet. Meanwhile, Bearman was given a 5-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining advantage.
Crawford went on to win the race. Collet crossed the finish line in 2nd place, while Colapinto completed the top 3.
