Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson confirmed that the team managed to fix “much” of Alexander Albon’s updated car for the Austrian GP.
The race weekend at Silverstone was important for Williams as they brought significant aerodynamic upgrades. They were installed on Albon’s car only.
The car was damaged during the lap 1 shunt last Sunday. Albon himself was sent to the hospital for precautionary checks. He was not injured and was cleared to compete.
Robson stated that Williams repaired the car and would test the updates at the Red Bull Ring.
“Having damaged Alex’s car at the race start last weekend, coming straight into a sprint event is logistically difficult. However, we have been able to repair or replace much of Alex’s car such that we can continue to understand the updates during FP1 on Friday.
“There is very little time to change the car before it passes into parc ferme at a sprint event and so we will need to be bold going into FP1 if we are to continue to push the performance.”
