Max Verstappen won the Canadian Grand Prix after a “really exciting” battle with Carlos Sainz.
The Dutch driver defended from the Ferrari throughout the race to claim the victory. Speaking after it, Verstappen said he was ‘giving it everything’ against Sainz.
“The safety car didn’t help,” he said. “I think overall they [Ferrari] were very quick in the race, so it would have been really tough for me to close that gap to the end, even on fresher tires.
“But yeah, it was really exciting at the end. I was giving it everything I had. Of course, Carlos was doing the same.
“Following is tricky around here, but I could see he was pushing, charging, pushing. Of course, naturally, when you have the DRS it’s a bit easier to charge.
“The last few laps were a lot of fun,” he added.
