Carlos Sainz believes that he was capable of winning the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Sainz was fighting for the Canadian GP victory with Max Verstappen the whole race. The Spaniard was putting pressure until the very end, but crossed the finish line 2nd, almost a second behind the winner.
“I was pushing flat out. I mean I wasn’t leaving any inch to the wall and we just didn’t have enough pace delta at the hairpin to get him into the chicane. The positive thing is that we were quicker, faster all race and just needed that little bit more to win,” Sainz reflected on the race.
“I am happy with the race pace and the way we were able to put pressure on Max throughout the whole race and the timing of the pit stops. Honestly, we tried everything. We were very close to winning today. We will take the positive and keep trying in the next one.”
