Fernando Alonso has revealed that he encountered an engine problem during Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Alonso started the race in Montreal from P2, hoping to get a top 5 result. However, the Spaniard crossed the finish line in P7, right behind his teammate Esteban Ocon.
Alonso was not happy with the outcome of the race and admitted that he had had an engine issue.
“I’m here trying to be better than sixth and seventh. And I think this weekend we were better than sixth and seventh,” he said.
“So if we didn’t finish in the podium or P4, it’s because we had a reliability issue on car 14 and unlucky maybe with the Virtual Safety Car. But luck you cannot control – reliability on car 14 should be better.
“We tried to fix it but it didn’t work. Luckily we didn’t retire the car and we still scored a few points.”
