Lando Norris believes that Aston Martin are currently “a long way ahead” of McLaren.
After a points finish in Baku, Aston Martin had a strong start to the race weekend in Montreal with Sebastian Vettel reaching P4 in FP2. Norris acknowledged the improvement of the Silverstone-based outfit.
“We made some good improvements, but pace-wise, it’s not looking amazing,” he told Sky Sports.
“Aston are quite a long way ahead of us, but in the last few weeks, they’ve definitely taken a good step and they look much more competitive now.”
Norris himself was 12th and 8th in Friday practice sessions. The Briton reflected on how the day unfolded for him.
“It’s not an easy track, with the bumps, with poor grip as well, being a street circuit that I guess never gets used until an F1 race.
“It’s tough, but I think we found some smaller things with the car.
“I lost a bit of running in FP1, so started a bit on the back foot with the long runs, and had to play catch up, but not in a bad place.”
