Max Verstappen has set the fastest lap time of the opening free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix.
The race weekend in Canada began on Friday at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Drivers rushed to leave their garages because of dark clouds coming to the race track. However, rain did not begin. Medium tires were the primary option, while several drivers used Softs.
Esteban Ocon encountered an issue with brakes in the opening stages of the session and had to go to the pits. The reason for it was a paper towel that got on a wheel.
After the FIA issued a technical directive in order to deal with porpoising, the officials were gathering relevant data to work out possible solutions to the issue.
Max Verstappen topped the standings of FP1. Carlos Sainz was second, while Fernando Alonso went on to be third-quickest on Medium tires.
