Sergio Perez seems unbothered by Red Bull’s team orders, as he says it was the right decision to let Max Verstappen pass him at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Austrian team had given the Mexican driver the order to let Verstappen by when he found himself leading the race while the Ferrari cars dropped back. Speaking after the Grand Prix, Perez said it was the right call.
“I think it was the right call from the team because, at that point, Max [Verstappen] was further ahead and it is a good team result.
“Here anything can happen. In the end, it’s a 1-2 and a good team result.”
Speaking about the race strategy, Perez blamed a miscommunication issue as the reason he’s missed out on a VSC pitstop.
“Unfortunately, we missed the VSC stop,” he explained. “There was some miscommunication and when we wanted it, it was a bit too late.
“We were a bit unlucky there because that would have made our race when we were leading.”
