Dennis Hauger has won Sunday’s Formula 2 Feature Race at the Baku City Circuit after Juri Vips’ crash.
Formula 2 action in Baku this weekend concluded with the 29-lap Feature Race.
Polesitter Juri Vips remained in front after start. Liam Lawson was second, while Marcus Armstrong passed Dennis Hauger for P3. The race was over on lap 1 for Amaury Cordeel and Olli Caldwell following their collision. Safety Car was deployed.
Sprint Race winner Frederik Vesti also had a nightmare beginning to the race as he failed to get off his grid box. He was pushed to the pit lane and managed to keep going.
The race was restarted on lap 5. The top 3 did not change, while behind them there were several position switches.
Lawson was outside the DRS range, which allowed Armstrong to put pressure on him. The Carlin driver had his mandatory pit stop on lap 9 and was followed by several more drivers. In the end, Lawson lost his position to Hauger.
Vips went to the pits a lap later. Meanwhile, Lawson was overtaken by Jehan Daruvala. Armstrong pitted on lap 11 and rejoined the race track ahead of Vips. However, the Hitech GP driver retook his position shortly after.
Safety Car was back on the track after an accident involving Roy Nissany and Cem Bolukbasi.
Calan Williams was yet to make his pit stop, so he lead the field at the restart. The Trident driver kept the lead, while there was a bunch of incidents behind him. Virtual Safety Car was deployed.
Williams locked his tires up at sector 1, allowing Vips to come back to the lead. However, his opponents were right behind.
Jack Doohan was given a 5-second penalty for causing a collision with Lawson.
Vips was on course of winning the race, but he hit the wall in the castle section with just several minutes left in the race. Hauger inherited the race lead, while Safety Car was deployed once again.
Safety Car left the track on the last lap, meaning that Hauger’s position was untouchable. The Norwegian driver won the race. Logan Sargeant finished second, and Felipe Drugovich completed the podium.
