Sergio Perez has set the fastest lap time of the opening free practice session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Formula 1’s race weekend at the Baku City Circuit began on Friday afternoon with FP1.
All drivers left their garages in the opening minutes to have their first laps around the race track this weekend.
After a big crash at the Monaco GP, the weekend in Baku did not start well for Mick Schumacher as well. He encountered mechanical issues, which ended his session. Virtual Safety Car was deployed to remove the Haas car.
Virtual Safety Car had to used again after Nicholas Latifi stopped outside the track.
Long straights of the Baku City Circuit made porpoising a significant challenge once again.
Halfway through the session some drivers began working with Soft tires to practice qualifying runs instead of Hards and Mediums.
In the end, Sergio Perez set topped the standings of FP1. Charles Leclerc was second, while Max Verstappen completed the top 3.
