Helmut Marko believes that AlphaTauri is the best place for Pierre Gasly after Sergio Perez has extended his contract with Red Bull Racing.
Perez signed a two-year deal with Red Bull ahead of the Monaco GP, meaning that the Mexican would stay in the team until at least the end of the 2024 season. It hurt Gasly’s chances to come back to the Milton Keynes-based squad in the foreseeable future.
Marko thinks that there is no better option for Gasly than AlphaTauri given the current situation.
“Before Perez signed his contract, of course I spoke to Gasly,” the Red Bull advisor told Formel1.de.
“We have to see what happens after 2023. What is the alternative for him?
“I don’t think at the moment there is an alternative that would be significantly better than AlphaTauri.”
Marko has also hinted that driver line-up changes at AlphaTauri for the 2023 season are unlikely.
“We can probably assume that the current drivers will remain in their places.
“However, coronavirus is still present, so it could be that the youngsters will have to step in.
“Of course I hope no one gets injured, but they will have to keep waiting [for a full-time seat] for another year.”
