ART GP’s Victor Martins takes a dominant win in Formula 3 Feature Race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Formula 3 action in Barcelona this weekend concluded with Feature Race on Sunday morning.
Polesitter Roman Stanek was defending from Victor Martins, but the ART GP driver took over the lead at turn 1. Isack Hadjar followed them in P3. Van Amersfoort Racing drivers had a tricky start. Reece Ushijima lost a bunch of positions after going wide, while Rafael Villagomez had to go off-track after trying to overtake Kush Maini.
Villagomez and Maini came together on lap 4. The Mexican hit the barrier, severely damaging the car. Safety Car was deployed. Maini was given a 10-second time penalty for causing the collision.
The race was restarted on lap 8. There were no changes in the top 5, while right behind them Kaylen Frederick was overtaken by Jak Crawford and Caio Collet.
Brad Benavides went off the track at the exit of turn 2 and hit the barrier. The race was over for the Carlin driver and Safety Car was back on the race track.
Racing action was resumed on lap 15. The leaders did not change positions while the battle between David Vidales and Arthur Leclerc resulted in both drivers going off-track at turns 1 and 2. The winner of Saturday’s Sprint Race retired from the race after the incident.
A lap later, the Monegasque had a close battle with Gregoire Saucy for P11. At the same time, Campos Racing drivers Hunter Yeany and Josep Maria Marti made a contact. Yeany was penalized for causing the collision.
Leclerc was given a 5-second time penalty for the incident with Vidales. It did not stop the PREMA Racing driver as he passed Juan Manuel Correa to get to the top 10 despite being forced to go through the grass. However, he let Correa pass and fought against Saucy again.
Upfront, Hadjar tried to overtake Stanek for P2, but the attempt was not successful.
Martins was unreachable for his opponents and went on to win the race. Stanek managed to hold off Hadjar to finish second.
