George Russell believes that Mercedes are able to compete against Ferrari during Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.
Russell finished 4th in Saturday’s qualifying at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which was his best result in 2022. The Mercedes driver stated that he could have performed even better.
“We didn’t really have the tires in the right window and I felt like there’s a lot more lap time on the table, yet we still came home with P4, our best qualifying this season,” Russell told Sky Sports.
The Briton also shared his expectations for the race, suggesting that Mercedes would be capable of competing with Ferrari.
“Looking at the pace on Friday, we had a better race car than we did a qualifying car.
“I think we’ve got a real chance against Ferrari. But Red Bull, especially Max [Verstappen], seem a little bit faster than the rest. It’s all to play for.”
