Roman Stanek has been the quickest driver in Formula 3 qualifying at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
F3 drivers determined starting grids for both Sprint and Feature Races in Spain in the qualifying session.
As soon as the pit lane exit was open, plenty of drivers went out to the race track to set lap times.
Everyone was pushing to the limit, which led to small mistakes. Roman Stanek made a lock-up and went wide off track, while William Alatalo almost lost his car in turn 1. Oliver Bearman hit a bollard in sector 3 chicane.
Caio Collet was on provisional pole after the first outing. Franco Colapinto was second, while Victor Martins was in P3. Zane Maloney missed the weighbridge and the incident would be investigated after the session.
The drivers came back to the race track with 19 minutes left on the clock. Lap times kept improving and the top 3 changed. Martins took over the lead after the second outing. Alexander Smolyar and Arthur Leclerc were following the ART GP driver.
The drivers left the pit lane to make their final attempts with less than 7 minutes left. Traffic was a concern, so everyone was fighting for a track position.
Martins was close to getting the pole position for Sunday’s Feature Race, but Stanek managed to beat his lap at the checkered flag. Smolyar dropped down to 3rd.
