Jack Doohan has topped the standings of Formula 2 qualifying session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
F2 qualifying concluded Friday’s racing action in Barcelona. Only 21 driver took part in qualifying after Ralph Boschung had withdrawn from the race weekend due to neck pain.
The drivers split into a couple of groups during their first outing. Jehan Daruvala was on provisional pole for a long time. Jake Hughes and Clement Novalak followed the PREMA Racing driver.
Felipe Drugovich, who was the quickest driver in practice, beat Daruvala’s lap time. Shortly after, Jack Doohan was even quicker. However, Daruvala responded with another fastest lap.
Daruvala and Dennis Hauger completed both their runs early and were waiting for the conclusion of the session at the pit lane. The strategy proved to be ineffective as Doohan got to P1 in the final minutes. Frederik Vesti moved up to P2.
Juri Vips was on the verge of beating the Australian’s lap time, but the Hitech GP driver was just 0.023 seconds away at the finish line. It meant that Doohan got the Feature Race pole position. Drugovich was 10th and would start Saturday’s Sprint Race from pole.
