Christian Horner has spoken about Max Verstappen’s difficulties on the opening day of the Miami Grand Prix.
Verstappen’s issues started in FP1 when he touched a wall. After the incident, the team decided to replace a gearbox in his car.
As soon as the Dutchman left his garage in FP2, he reported about steering issues. Shortly after, the right rear brake caught fire. Verstappen had to come back to the pits where he stayed for the rest of the session. Horner spoke on the matter.
“He’s had a horrible day,” the Red Bull team principal said.
“He’s driven out of the pit lane and had a hydraulic issue which has unfortunately caused some damage to the rear brakes.
“He got a few laps in. I think he’s had five timed laps today, which were all competitive.
“Thankfully with the red flags, he’s not lost too much, but it’s frustrating not to have that track time.”
